Clarke County School District

Alex Borges, a Puerto Rican native, boasts an impressive 20-year career in family and community engagement, education advocacy, and K-12 education. His passion for community service shone brightly during his tenure as Executive Director at Casa de Amistad, where he championed social services and literacy for the Latinx and Hispanic communities. As a visionary social entrepreneur, Alex co-initiated a volunteer program dedicated to serving Latin America.

His expertise as a Migrant Education and Family and Community Engagement Specialist has seen him work diligently with marginalized and underrepresented groups, advocating for their access to essential resources and information. In his role as the chief translator and interpreter for a major school district, Alex spearheaded a Task Force aimed at enhancing information accessibility for students and families, regardless of language barriers. This initiative, involving students, caregivers, community members, teachers, and nonprofits, led to marked improvements in caregiver engagement and satisfaction during Parent/Teacher Conferences.

He is also the brainchild behind FESCON (Family Engagement and Support Conference), a pioneering event held in April 2023 in Athens, GA. FESCON set a new standard in the field of Family and Community Engagement by featuring diverse voices including Family Engagement Specialists, caregivers, community members, educators, civil rights activists, and students.

Alex's leadership and influence were recognized in 2022 when he was named one of the 'Gamechangers - Top 10 under 40' by the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, acknowledging his role in fostering community growth. In 2023, the Howard B. Stroud Community Service Award from the Foundation for Excellence in Public Education of Athens, Georgia, was bestowed upon him, honoring his dedicated service to the Clarke County School District and its students.

Alex holds a Master's degree in Business and Technology from the University of Georgia's Terry College of Business, obtained in 2020. He currently serves in the Gwinnett County Public Schools, in the Office of Federal Programs, where he continues to enrich educational experiences in Title I schools.
